Network+ Summer School Prize Competition

  1. The University of Bristol (“Promoter”) is the promoter of the prize competition advertised at Device prototyping and production summer school – pro² network+ (prosquared.org) (“Competition” ).
  2. By submitting an entry to the Competition the applicant is agreeing to be bound by the Promoter’s terms and conditions set out below (“Terms”).
  3. The Competition is only open to registered participants of the 2024 pro² network+ Summer School (“Summer School”), which must be aged 18 years or over. To be considered a “registered participant” under these Terms, a person must have had the application to attend the Summer School accepted by the Promoter.
  4. In entering the Competition entrants confirm that they are eligible to do so and to claim any Prize they may win under these Terms.
  5. If the Promoter has any reason to believe that an entrant has breached these Terms or that the conduct of the entrant is contrary to the spirit or intention of the Competition, the Promoter reserves the right to disqualify or exclude the entrant from participating in the Competition.
  6. The Promoter reserves the right to hold void, cancel, suspend, or amend the Competition where it becomes necessary to do so.
  7. There is a limit of one entry per person. Entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted and joint submissions are not allowed.
  8. Entries to the Competition are free. There is no cash alternative for the Prize. Maximum of one Prize per winner.
  9. The Promoter will not accept entries to the Competition that are: i) automatically generated by computer or created by artificial intelligence; ii) completed by third parties or in bulk; iii) illegible, have been altered, reconstructed, forged or tampered with; iv) incomplete; or v) obscene, offensive, threatening, hateful, inflammatory, promotes sexually explicit material, promotes violence, promotes discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age, or promotes any illegal activity.
  10. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for entries not successfully completed due to a technical fault of any kind or for any entries which are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit, whether as a result of postal failure, equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software of any kind. Proof of posting or transmission will not be accepted as proof of receipt of entry to the Competition.
  11. Winners of the Competition will be chosen by a panel of independent judges which will base their decision on specified criteria. Their decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered about it.
  12. If the winner does not claim the Prize strictly in accordance with these Terms, then the Prize will be forfeited and the Promoter reserves the right to offer the Prize to another winner selected in accordance with the process described above. The Promoter does not accept any responsibility if a winner is not able to take up the Prize.
  13. The Promoter shall not be responsible for any expenses incurred by a Prize winner in relation to claiming, receiving or collecting the Prize.
  14. The Promoter will either publish or make available information that indicates that a valid award took place. In claiming the Prize the winner consents to his/her/their name, surname, institutional affiliation (if any) and winning entry to be published on the social media or other communication channel used by the Promoter to run the Competition. To object to his/her/their name, surname, institutional affiliation (if any) and/or winning entry being published in this way, the winner must communicate this to the Promoter when claiming the Prize. The Promoter will still have the right to provide such information to the Advertising Standards Authority on request.
  15. When collecting the Prize the winner may agree to give consent for the Promoter to use the winner’s details, or to have the winner’s photograph taken for display at the Promoter’s website, emails, prints or otherwise as part of any future social media posts or other marketing materials relating to Promoter’s promotions.
  16. The Competition is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with any social media platform providers such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or otherwise. Entrants will be bound by the terms of service of those platform providers when entering the Competition if published on such social media.
  17. Insofar as is permitted by law, the Promoter will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up a Prize except where it is caused by the negligence of the Promoter. The statutory rights of the winner are not affected.
  18. Any personal data that entrants share with the Promoter under the Competition will only be processed for the purpose of carrying out the Competition and delivering the Prize in accordance with these Terms and will be deleted thereafter. Such personal data will be processed at all times in compliance with the Promoter’s Date Protection polices, UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.
  19. These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If any entrants to the Competition wish to take court proceedings, then they must do this within the courts in the United Kingdom.

2024 PRO2 NETWORK+ SUMMER SCHOOL PRIZE COMPETITION

  • Opening Date: at 09.00 a.m. UK time on 22nd April 2024. Closing Date: 6.00 p.m. UK time on 24th May 2024. Entries received by the Promoter after the Closing Date may not be accepted at the Promoter’s discretion.
  • Prize(s):There are three prizes consisting of £1,000 and five Prizes consisting of £200. Any winners must spend the awarded amounts on the purchase of goods and/or services with the sole purpose of moving the winner’s prototype idea into production including (“Eligible Prizes Criteria”):
  • Equipment and consumables required to design or build prototype or small volume devices; and
  • The contract manufacture and assembly of printed circuit boards (PCBs), cases and enclosures;
  • Testing, verification and compliance costs;
  • Logistics costs associated with device distribution;
  • Consultancy of expert staff required to further the device toward product;
  • Costs related to the evaluation of the product; and
  • Networking, dissemination and marketing costs associated with reaching a product market.
  • To enter the Competition, you must be a registered participant of the Summer School and must submit your prototype proposal before Closing Date. You will be notified by the Promoter of your acceptance to enter the Competition by 7th June 2024. Participants who would like to opt out must notify the Promoter of their decision in writing ahead of the start of the Summer School on 9th July 2024.
  • To find out if you are a winner, the Competition entries will be judged by a panel of two judges based on the criteria of “most potential for impact.** The Promoter will contact the winners by 26th July 2024 via email with information of the Prize won and requiring the winners to confirm receipt of the notification.
  • If you are a Prize winner, to claim your Prize you must confirm receipt of the notification email informing you that you have won a Prize and send your proposal for expenditure up to the value of the Prize, which must comply with the Eligible Purchases Criteria set out above. You must confirm and send your Proposal to admin@prosquared.org within a period of 6 months from 26th July 2024 for approval. The Promoter reserves the right to reject any Proposal submitted late, or which it believes is not in accordance with the Eligible Purchases Criteria, any laws or regulations applicable in the UK, or which poses a risk to the Promoter in any way.
  • To receive your Prize, after the Promoter’s approval of your Proposal the Promoter will purchase the approved goods and/or services on your behalf . All the monetary value awarded under a Prize must be spent within a period of one year from the 26th July 2024 and following this date, any remaining value not spent within a Prize will be forfeited. The Promoter reserves the right to reject claims for payment which are submitted late or without the relevant proposal.
