Democratise Digital Device Production

The pro² network+ is a UKRI (United Kingdom Research and Innovation) funded network that aims to democratise digital device production. We want to make it easier for people to make digital devices.

We’re missing out on a world of devices that could make our lives easier and more enjoyable.

For over a century we have seen exponential growth in technical innovation. Software development tools and programming frameworks are a great example of the ways in which innovators have been empowered to pursue their ideas more effectively.

The same cannot be said for hardware. Hardware provides the gateway through which software functions, but innovators have not been empowered to create and scale hardware products in the same way.

How we are helping

Funding

Academia-industry projects focused on new tools, materials, processes and platforms that enable all people to produce digital devices.

Networking

We’re connecting like-minded individuals and organisations to collaborate around finding solutions to device production challenges.

Events

We’re holding events such as conferences, workshops and hackathons to provide dedicated spaces for exchanging ideas and generating solutions.

Policy change

We’re consulting with members on changes we need to see at policy level and coordinating advocacy around those changes.

What do we do?

The pro² network is made up of academics, industry experts and individual innovators. To see who’s involved and the way we are structured, please visit our Network Team page.

The network team, with feedback from members, has identified the problems that need to be solved to empower more people to produce digital devices. We have created a Theory of Change to map out how we intend to try and solve these problems. The Theory of Change is constantly evolving and we would love to hear your feedback on it, so please share your thoughts with us at admin@prosquared.org.
